RE: 13mpg on a 20ft Chevy 350 Class C. Is it normal?

The best I've ever gotten with my 23'Chevy 350 was 9.5 mpg and that was in relatively flat country, not towing anything, and not running the dash AC. What year? How long is your rig? 1982 and it's 23' long. This fantastic 9.5 mpg I got was driving at 55 mph on the highway. My overall average would be around 8 mpg.

RE: onan generator spark plugs

I always get my NGK plugs from Advance Auto Parts. They have a good selection and if not in stock they should be able to get them for you by the next business day. Good luck

RE: dry camping and boondocking--check

As hot as it is now and the need to run the generator for the air conditioner, in my case it would be a lot cheaper to find a CG with electricity.

RE: Grey Tank Repair Help What To Use

I used Devcon Plastic Welder on my gray tank a couple of years ago and haven't had any leaks since. Found the stuff in the glue section near paints at Walmart.

RE: For those in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Thanks for the info coffeecamper. I camped there many, many years ago and really enjoyed it. Now that you've reminded me, DW and I plan to make another visit. The cool breeze sounds great.

RE: Which Gravel to use

Although it's not anywhere near powder, pea gravel is approx. 1/4" in diameter and round. Even Walmart sells it in bags for $3.97.

RE: generator exhaust

The Gen-turi only works in certain applications. In our case we often use the generator to run the A/C and the last thing I want to do is pump the exhaust up to the roof where the A/C air inlet is. Supposedly, your roof A/C doesn't pull in outside air (that would contain exhaust fumes). It just cools and recirculates the air inside your RV. Can anyone here confirm this?

RE: Duct tape residue--the verdict is in!!!

Once you remove the glue, does the paint underneath have a yellow stain that can't be removed. I've seen this on RVs before where the duct tape had been left on for quite awhile.

RE: generator exhaust

I made my own "Gen-turi" from 3" PVC pipe and used flexible steel pipe to make the 90 degree bend that attaches directly to my Onan generator's exhaust pipe. I made sure the flexible pipe was slightly larger in diameter than the exhaust pipe so I wouldn't affect the back pressure on the generator. Creates a double venturi effect. And NO, the PVC will not melt if you make your extension like the Gen-turi. Enough cool air is pulled up the PVC pipe to keep it from melting.

RE: Bike recommendations

DW and I both take our Trek mountain bikes with us on all camping trips. They work great on paved/gravel roads in the campground, but really shine on the trails, wherever we can find them.

RE: 303 Protectant on New Tires

I used to use the stuff, but it got way too costly if you put it on as often as they recommend. Depending on the brand of tire, the cost of using 303 could rival the price of buying new tires. Now I just keep my tires covered when the MH is not in use. Then you are not using it according to their directions. A 1 qt bottle should do a wet of MH tires(3 on each side) for like 4 to 8 years for $20. Larry I don't know where you got the 4 to 8 years. If your quart is lasting that long then you're not applying it as instructed. I'm looking at the directions and it says "Spray on, wipe dry. Apply every 3-5 weeks for maximum UV protection." At this rate you'll go thru a heck of a lot of 303.

RE: Weather Whimps, Surviving Thunder & Lightning

Looks like this thread is running out of steam so I'll live it up a bit with my rant on the so called "Weather Channel". I think they should rename it the "Entertainment Channel". They cover everything but the weather and go on and on for hours with their "Storm Stories" or other useless garbage. When I turn on the Weather Channel it's usually because of severe weather headed in my direction and all I can get is Storm Stories or some such foolishness. More than likely the "Local on the Eights" with the weather radar is preempted by you guessed it, STORM STORIES.:M Any opinions?

RE: Not much, but maybe we can do something about fuel $

On CBS news a short while ago the CEOs of the major airlines are all blaming speculators and signed a statement requesting that congress do something about it.

RE: Water Leak in Shasta

You may have a leak at your water pump. Turn on a faucet and watch the pump and associated piping for leaks. I had a leak in my Shasta and all I had to do was tighten the fitting on the pipe on the discharge side of the pump. Good luck

RE: Onan 5.5 oil leak

Not sure how your oil filter is attached to your 5.5, but on my 4.0 Onan the filter is screwed into a bracket that is bolted to the engine. The bolts had loosened over time, probably from vibration, and oil was leaking around the bracket and gasket. I tightened the bolts and no more leak.

RE: 4.80 / 4.00-8 tires

I replaced the 8" tires on my ATV trailer with the 12" tires, but I went a step further and installed steel belted automotive tires that normally come on tiny cars. They're much wider than the 12" trailer tires, will carry a heavier load and are a lot less likely to blowout. I did have to raise my fenders to give more clearance.
